About Liberation Station
Liberation Station is North Carolina’s only Black-owned children’s bookstore, founded by educator, author, and advocate Victoria Scott-Miller. Created as both a cultural space and community resource, Liberation Station centers liberation, literacy, and representation for children and families who have long been overlooked by traditional bookshelves.
What began as a search for inclusive children’s books for Scott-Miller’s sons evolved into a movement rooted in joy, resistance, and care. The bookstore curates stories that celebrate Black identity, disability justice, imagination, and possibility—ensuring that children can see themselves reflected fully and beautifully in the books they read.
Liberation Station is more than a bookstore. It is a gathering space, a learning hub, and a testament to the power of community. After closing in 2024 due to safety concerns, the bookstore reopened in 2025 thanks to overwhelming community support and fundraising efforts that raised over $70,000. Today, Liberation Station stands as a living example of what’s possible when community rallies to protect spaces built for liberation, belonging, and future generations.
