Juneteenth at Liberation Station Bookstore

Join Liberation Station Bookstore for a day-long Juneteenth celebration filled with stories, culture, creativity, music, shopping, and community. From sweet potato pies and storytime to author showcases, live music, children’s activities, local vendors, and evening shopping, this family-friendly event honors the past while building a brighter future.

Throughout the day, guests are invited to connect with Black authors, entrepreneurs, artists, and educators while celebrating the rich traditions, achievements, and ongoing legacy of Black communities.

About the Celebration

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and serves as a powerful reminder of resilience, liberation, and community. At Liberation Station, we celebrate through literacy, storytelling, creativity, and collective joy—bringing people together to learn, connect, and uplift one another.

9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Sweet Potato Pies & Storytime

Begin the day with warm hospitality, delicious sweet potato pies from Pies by PJ, and uplifting stories that celebrate Black culture, history, and imagination.

Families and readers of all ages are invited to gather for a special storytime experience featuring books that inspire, educate, and empower. Enjoy homemade pie made with love while sharing in stories that connect generations and honor our collective heritage.

The Black Out Author Showcase Pull-Up

Celebrate Black voices and Black excellence through an engaging showcase featuring authors, readers, and literary enthusiasts.

Meet talented Black writers, discover new books, hear author insights, and support storytellers who are shaping culture and building the future through literature. Guests will have opportunities to connect with authors, learn about their work, and purchase books throughout the event.

Dear Reader Candle Company Pop-Up

Experience a unique shopping event featuring Dear Reader Candle Company, a Black-owned business creating handcrafted candles inspired by books, stories, memories, and meaningful moments.

Browse a collection of literary-themed candles designed to bring the magic of reading into your home while supporting Black entrepreneurship and creative storytelling.

3:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Jam & Jubilee with Miss Nikki

Get ready to sing, dance, create, and celebrate with the energetic and interactive Miss Nikki during this joyful Juneteenth experience.

Children and families will enjoy music, movement, instrument-making activities, and community celebration as they learn about freedom and cultural traditions through play and creativity.

Following the program, guests are invited to participate in the Jubilee Parade, a vibrant community procession celebrating liberation, unity, and joy.

5:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Children’s Paint & Sip

Young artists are invited to create their own Juneteenth-inspired artwork during this hands-on painting experience.

Participants will enjoy a creative environment that encourages imagination, storytelling, and self-expression while reflecting on the significance of Juneteenth. Each child will receive a special Juneteenth coloring page and opportunities to create artwork inspired by freedom, community, and culture.
